A Little About Us

The Jump Start ECC Program is a partnership between The Children’s Trust of Miami-Dade County, the University of Miami Mailman Center for Child Development, and a team of community providers that specialize in early childhood development—Family Central, Inc., Jewish Community Services of South Florida, and Community Health of South Florida, Inc. Using culturally-sensitive techniques grounded in decades of research, we developed toolkits for early learning program directors and teachers to help them manage challenging behaviors and promote children’s development.

Jump Start ECC aims to increase the capacity of all early care and education providers (i.e. family childcare homes, and childcare centers) to address young children’s needs, reduce challenging behaviors that increase risk for preschool expulsion, and buffer the impact of current challenges on academic outcomes later in life. Our program provides early care and education programs a Mental Health Consultant who learns about their goals and works directly with their staff for up to 6 months to offer personalized strategies based on individual need. Consultants use the Georgetown model of Infant/Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation (I/ECMHC) to provide Program-focused, Classroom-focused, and/or Child-focused Consultations based on your program’s goals and teachers’ needs.

Although services are provided across the county, priority is given to early care and education programs in The Children’s Trust Thrive by 5 Quality Improvement System (QIS). Childcare programs not participating in QIS are considered upon request and availability.
